TEST DRIVE MEME 1
IF BOTH CHARACTERS APP IN AND AGREE, THREADS USING PROMPT 1 CAN BE COUNTED AS GAME CANON.
PLEASE READ THE FAQ TO DECIDE YOUR ORGANIC FORM BEFORE POSTING!
You awake laying on your back in an, admittedly comfortable, pod. You can't move anything but your eyes, can't even feel your body yet. How you got here or why is a blank. You may have been in the middle of your day, asleep, or even- for what you remember- should be dead. Then a screen directly in front of your face flickers to life and in crisp, black and white displays: DON'T PANIC. The following video then plays:
The screen flickers again and reads: CONGRATULATIONS ON PLANNING FOR THE FUTURE! WELCOME TO VAULT LIFE, CITIZEN. WELCOME TO YEAR: [ERROR]. YOUR PERSONAL BELONGINGS ARE LOCATED IN [FILE CORRUPTED. SEE SYSTEM ADMINISTRATOR]. ENJOY YOUR STAY AND THANK YOU FROM YOUR FRIENDS AT VAULT-TEC.
The pod then unseals and you are able to, unstably at first, climb out of the pod. Your body may feel foreign for a moment- perhaps entirely foreign if you suddenly find yourself a human, ghoul, or super mutant for the first time. But whatever your form, you have two items on: a bright blue jumpsuit with the number 66 in yellow on the back, and a mechanical device known as a Pip-boy sealed onto your arm. If you click on the buttons it takes you to an instruction screen.
You look around to find yourself in a room of other pods. Some are just opening, other people looking as confused as you climbing out. Others remain closed with the status of 'STASIS' on the screens attached to the pods. The rest of the room is less than impressive. Computer systems that seem out of place compared to the technology level of the pods are scattered across the room, apparently running the chambers. Trying to access them, even for the most talented hacker, will simply result in SEE OVERSEER being displayed. There is large metal door leading to the rest of the vault, a lever on the wall next to it that will cause it to open.
Welcome, dweller, to vault 66.
The living quarters of the vault leave something to be desired. Like non-moldy bedding or fewer skeletons and less blood on the walls. It's clear that whatever happened to the last occupants of the vault, whoever they were, it wasn't exactly a peaceful end. The medical wing has some of the worst blood splatter...but that at least you can pretend was from needed medical interventions. Right?
At the moment, the entire vault is run only on emergency generators, creating dull, flickering light throughout the underground base. None of the computers are working yet, and what appear to be three robots are powered-down in various corners of the vault. There's only you and the people that woke up with you now.
Despite this, there's some hope. There's clean, if very mineral tasting, water in the sinks, toilets, and showers. There's a pool table if someone can relax enough for a game and doesn't mind the fact it looks like a pool cue shoved in the eye socket may have caused the death of a couple of the skeletons laying around. Further, on exploring the kitchen there's even some food! It's all pre-apocalypse, hyper preserved canned goods and sugary cereals that somehow haven't gone bad yet, but it's something.
Those willing to explore a little more will find they are not alone in the vault. In the shadows created by the flickering lights or outside of the range of the light of your pip-boy, there is skittering. The noise isn't noticeable when there are groups of people, but get down to three or two and it's impossible to ignore. If you don't run away, you'll eventually come across groups of foot long radroaches, gigantic cockroaches that are ready for some fresh food for once. And it looks like you're on the menu. Hopefully you've got one of those pool cues or found a wrench or some other weapon, because it's gonna take more than a stomp to take these guys out.
It's been a few days since everyone got out of the pods and started settling in. Louis, the 'Mr. Handy' robot in charge of cooking, can power up for whole hours at a time now. While he's recharging again now, he did make quite a feast beforehand. A whole cake, some tasty cola, and even grilled meat (if you helped kill the radroaches, you know where that meat came from). He even found some old party decorations that, once upon a time, were supposed to be used when the vault was unsealed and everyone allowed to leave. Everyone waking up is close enough, the robot had claimed, and hung the streamers and balloons throughout the rec area. There are even party hats, for the particularly festive.
The party lasts a good hour before the price for relaxing is paid: the emergency power flickers once, twice, then shuts down. Worse, the constant hum of the air vents you hadn't even really notice until now stops, leaving the vault in total silence and darkness. Only the pod room has any energy left, and all of that must be used to keep those still in stasis alive.
Repairs are going to have to be made.
((OOC: feel free to make assumptions and go wild with repairing the reactor or the emergency power supply. It's a TDM, mod approval not needed for anything)).
Post text or audio messages to the pip-boy network to get to know your fellow dwellers!
Princess Azula | Avatar: The Last Airbender
[ As you try to find your bearings and recover from the disorienting process of waking up in a pod, you may notice some of your fellow Vault Dwellers aren't handling this as well as the others.
One in particular being a pale, dark haired girl who has backed herself up against a wall and is looking at you all with suspicion and murderous intent in her eyes.
The last thing Azula remembered was running off into the forest after her mother...
Clamping her eyes closed she pressed a palm to her head to try and quell a growing headache. She had to focus...had to put that woman and her deception out of her head. Whatever nightmare she'd just woken up into needed her full attention.
Do you dare to approach the girl as she grumbles to herself? Be careful those nails look sharp.]

[Settling in.]
[ Azula had calmed down somewhat, though her attitude had not improved. She was trapped underground which already had her anxiety building in the back of her mind, and she had discovered that her firebending had somehow been blocked. That had resulted in an emotional breakdown that thankfully she was fairly sure no one else saw since she was in her morbidly decorated room.
Now that she had collected her thoughts somewhat she was focusing her mind on the problems at hand. They needed to find out just how much of this place was accessible. Perhaps there were hidden chambers, perhaps more weapons or supplies...
...or perhaps there were giant bugs.]
Absolutely disgusting.
[She doesn't sound too stressed just irritated as she looks to you and gestures to the bugs.]
Well go on. Dispose of them so we can continue.
[Wait is she not going to help? She's holding one of the few remaining pool cues!]

[Day of Rest.]
[By this point Azula's come to the conclusion that she's probably going to die in this horrible place.
No amount of cake or party hats is going to convince her that this isn't just some elaborate death trap to punish her for failing to kill her mother or take back the throne or any other number of sins she's committed.
No amount of potential death will convince her to eat bug meat. Not today at least.]
At least these drinks are interesting.
[But then the power goes out and she grips her fork tightly in case she needs to stab someone for getting too close to her. Gritting her teeth and rising from her seat she starts feeling her way through the darkness hoping to find a wall she can put her back to.]
Are there any candles in our supplies?
Arrival
He's handling this with the same suspicion and murderous intent the girl against the wall is. He can sense her turmoil through the whispered grumbles and he decides that being near her is far more preferable than the rest of the available options. At least until he finds something to cover his face with.
He says nothing to her, but does observe her like a curious cat for a moment before turning his attention elsewhere. For the briefest moment, he considers killing one of the other dwellers and using the scraps of their jumpsuit to fashion a mask but...that is too callous, even for him.
Instead, he remains near the wall, looking for some other means of escape.]

"What...happened to you?" She managed the shock of seeing someone like Erik distracting her from her panic attack for the time being.

But a moment later, the rage is contained enough for him to pretend that he is a civilized person.
"The same thing that happened to you, I imagine," he says with dry humor, waving towards the machines in the center of the room with his free hand.
"I'm not certain though, if this is simply a horrid nightmare or a very clever ruse. Or both. Your thoughts?"
no subject
"It's not one of my nightmares." She confirms though doesn't mention she's only sure of that because she doesn't recognize anyone here. The reoccurring cast in her nightmares are all very familiar to her.
"If it's not a trick from the spirit world then it's something...something else. Some madness of science and technology."
Having to focus on just who or what could do something like this to her helped calm her down somewhat. This technology was beyond anything she had seen even in her own nation.
"If it is a ruse they'll burn for this humiliation."
no subject
"I assure you, I looked like this before I woke up here. Honestly, I'd have been more shocked if I had miraculously grown a nose." Truthfully, her reaction to it has been relatively mild, hence his sarcasm instead of outright violence.
"So, not one of yours, not one of mine. That's reassuring. Still could be a ruse made with science." These machines are nothing like anything he has ever seen before either, even with his genius.
"I agree that they should burn for the humiliation, though.
no subject
"Not like any science that I've seen before." She confesses "And the Fire Nation is the most advanced technological powerhouse in the world."
Well...in her world at least. Which was feeling farther and farther away each moment.
When he agrees with her on their punishment that earns him half a smile of appreciation. It's been some time since she met someone who was in favor of such direct punishments.
"There's no one trying to guide or direct us. So either they wanted us to come out of those pods now...or something's gone wrong." She reasons out loud trying to keep herself calm by analyzing the problem.
"And if the state of this place is anything to go off of...I'm guessing this was an accident."
no subject
At her small smile, he smirks behind his hand and decides that if he has been forced to interact with people, at least he has found someone tolerable and interesting.
"Shall we investigate? No sense in lingering here. Regardless of our collective technological knowledge, or lack thereof, I have a feeling this place is far more immense than we realize." He pushes away from the wall they've been sharing and looks down at her expectantly. Solidarity in numbers, right?
no subject
"Lead the way. No sense in wasting our time in this...overly crowded space."
A subtle way of accepting that she needed some air, needed some space to think. All these distressed, irritated strangers were setting her off and it was a struggle to keep from bolting for the door by herself. At least this way she could claim it was being productive.
